Madison Baseball: Name The Team Contest Top Ten

MADISON- Ten names have been selected as the finalists of the Name The Team contest for the 2020 Southern League baseball team in Madison. The list was announced by BallCorps, owner of the minor league franchise.

“I think we have come up with 10 names that are overall strong that will give our fan base great options to choose from,” said Roger Wexelberg, team president. “Naturally, there will be names on the list that some people love and some they will not, but that is the point of fan vote.”

Voting for the 10 finalists extends through noon Aug. 16, after which five names will be eliminated with the five remaining names open for voting. The team name will be announced at a public event on Sept. 5.

The top 10 names listed in alphabetical order are:

Army Ants, Comet Jockeys, GloWorms, Lunartics, Moon Possums, Puffy Head Bird Legs, Space Chimps, Space Sloths, ThunderSharks and Trash Pandas.

The 10 names were chosen based on their uniqueness and how each names relates to the characteristics of Madison and surrounding communities. BallCorps teamed up with Brandiose of San Diego, the Minor League Baseball industry’s premiere branding partner.

“We had over 3,500 entries for our name the team contest with over 900 unique submissions and every one submitted by someone,” added Wexelberg. “We want to hear what the fans have to say about the top choices.”

Those wishing to submit a vote on which name they think the Madison baseball team should be called can do so at www.northalabamabaseball.com.
