Classes open with Christian Women’s Job Corps

MADISON – Christian Women’s Job Corps of Madison County Inc. is accepting applications for the Fall 2018 semester.

Women who are 18 to 60 years old can register now for free classes. Women with all levels of education are eligible.

“A gap in your employment history can sometimes hurt your chances at finding a job,” Susan D. Elder, site coordinator for Madison, said. “Christian Women’s Job Corps helps you to bridge the gap by offering internship opportunities with local businesses.”

In addition, students can learn new skills, the benefits of networking and have a professional reference to include on their updated resumes.

“Employers talk with each other,” Elder said. “If you have been a valuable asset to the company for which you’re interning, the supervisor is typically willing ‘to put in a good word’ for you at another company.”

Core classes are available in Bible study, career exploration, computer skills and money matters. Openings still are available at two of four locations in Madison County:

* Heritage United Methodist Church — 29768 Huntsville Brownsferry Road in Madison (from County Line Road, proceed west on Huntsville Brownsferry Road about .25 mile to the church). Classes will meet for 10 weeks on Monday and Tuesday from 10:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Orientation will be conducted on Aug. 28, with classes starting on Sept. 4. Application deadline is Aug. 15.

* First Baptist Church of Huntsville — 600 Governors Drive. Classes meet for 10 weeks on Tuesday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Orientation will be Aug. 30. Classes will start on Sept. 4. Application deadline is Aug. 15.

Classes also will be held at Union Hill Primitive Baptist Church, 2115 Winchester Road NW in Huntsville, and Whitesburg Baptist Church, Pulaski Pike campus at 3911 Pulaski Pike in Huntsville, but the application deadline has passed for these locations.

Applications are available at First Baptist Church, Heritage UMC and online at cwjc.net.

The corps also offers internships at First Baptist Church of Huntsville and Heritage UMC.

Office hours for the corps are Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call Charmika Merriweather at 256-428-9461 or email cmerriweather@cwjc.net.
