Youth Basketball Registration Now Open

MADISON- In athletics, it’s never too early to think about the next sport and that’s exactly what the City of Madison Recreation Department is now handling as registration for the upcoming 2018-2019 City of Madison Youth Basketball is underway.

Through Sept. 8, registration is available at any time on-line at https://register1.vermontsystems.com/almadison.html. Fees are $75 for the DBL League (ages 5-6) and $150 for ages seven to 18.

Walk-in registration at Dublin Memorial Park will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, 8:30 a.m.-noon, Thursday, Aug. 30, 5:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 8, 8:30 a.m.-noon. Age of the participants, both boys and girls, will be determined by Sept. 1, 2018.

More than 700 youngsters participated last year among 89 teams for what has become an enjoyable tradition for the players and their families.

“On-line registration is new this season and we hope to see some positive comments from our parents and players in making the registration process a little easier,” said Kelly Johnson, assistant director of the Madison Recreation Department. “We’re using Vermont Systems and its RecTrac and WebTrac as we began training on the systems earlier this year.”

The newest season of youth basketball will begin with pre-season practices in early November with competition games beginning in early Dec. through the end of season tournament in February. The program uses many of the schools in the City of Madison School System for locations of both practices and games. Length of season will depend on how many teams are formed and how much gym access is allowed from the schools.

“We’re also hoping to provide an adult league soon to go along with our volleyball league, but that hangs on the fact of gym availability as Dublin Memorial Park can only hold so many events,” added Johnson. “Without the help and support from Madison City Schools for both our basketball and volleyball leagues, we could not have such a program for our youth, as well as, the adults in the Madison area.”
