U.S. representative to speak at Labor Day town hall

HUNTSVILLE — Rep. Eric Swalwell of California’s 15th congressional district will join Peter Joffrion, Huntsville native and Democratic candidate for Alabama’s 5th congressional district, for a town hall Sept. 3 from 3:30-5 p.m. at Fellowship Presbyterian Church.

This town hall will focus on “Growth, Revitalization, and National Security.” Attendees will have a chance to hear from Joffrion and Swalwell and discuss their own thoughts on these key issues.

“It’s appropriate that we focus on the issues of growth and revitalization this Labor Day,” Joffrion said. “Our workforce, entrepreneurial and small business communities are the backbone of North Alabama’s economy. My campaign is committed to bringing new opportunities to the hard-working people of Congressional District 5.”

Swalwell has a seat on three vital national committees: the House Judiciary Committee, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Subcommittee on the Central Intelligence Agency, of which he is a ranking member. He has also served on the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.

As a member of the 15th congressional district in California, Swalwell covers Silicon Valley. He will discuss his connection to the high-tech area linking his district to North Alabama’s own high-tech research facilities. Swalwell will also expound upon his role in space, intelligence and national security.

Swalwell has said he is considering running for president in 2020.

Alabama’s 5th congressional district covers the majority of North Alabama, including Lauderdale, Limestone, Madison and Morgan Counties, as well as most of Jackson County.

Joffrion spent 22 years as a Huntsville City attorney, overseeing all major economic development in the community. Since retiring, he served as a tutor and mentor at the Boys and Girls Club for 11 years and has served alongside his wife, Kerry, as a youth group advisor at their church.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has identified Joffrion’s campaign as a “Majority Maker.”

Fellowship Presbyterian Church is located at 3406 Meridian St. N in Huntsville. To find out more about Joffrion or the event, visit peterjoffrion.com.
