Coco for Kids runs on Nov. 17 to help Kids to Love

MADISON – The fourth annual Coco for Kids Chocolate 10K, 5K & 1-Mile Fun Run on Nov. 17 in Cummings Research Park will benefit the Kids to Love Foundation.

The Coco for Kids runs will leave the starting line at Parsons, 401 Diamond Drive NW in Huntsville.

“Make your first winter run filled with fun and chocolate. Come out and participate in our 10K/5K and 1-mile fun run supporting children living in foster care,” volunteer Faye Wishik said.

Start time on Nov. 17 for the 10K (USATF) will 8 a.m. The 5K (USATF) will start at 9:30 a.m. The 1-mile fun run will follow the 5K run.

Incorporated in 2004, Kids to Love is a 501(c)3-approved foundation has reached more than 250,000 foster children, rescuing them and meeting their needs. Lee Marshall, former local television news anchor and fellow adoptee, established Kids to Love.

Race fee for an individual participating in both the 10K and 5K runs is $50. The fee for the 10K only is $40; 5K only, $30; and 1-mile fun run, $10.

Runners can pick up packets at Fleet Feet Huntsville on Nov. 16 until 6 p.m. Late registration will be available at Fleet Feet on Nov. 16 until 6 p.m. or on race day.

In the 10K and 5K runs, runners will receive awards three categories:  

* Top 3 overall male and female finishers.

* Top 3 finishers in age categories.

* Top 3 finishers in 1-mile fun run.

Overall winners are not eligible for age group awards.

“Our first commitment is to find forever families for foster children. We’re working to create those lifelong bonds by recruiting adoptive parents,” Jill Gillespie said. Gillespie serves as Development/Outreach Coordinator for Kids to Love.

“Every week, our founder and CEO Lee Marshall shares with the Tennessee Valley stories of children waiting to be adopted,” Gillespie said. “The reality is that many of these children will not find a family, but that does not mean they have failed. Kids to Love helps them succeed.”
