Mustangs’ Evan Liddie Signs Baseball Scholarship

MADISON- A strong arm at the shortstop position will make well for any baseball team and the Falcons of the University of Montevallo are the recipients of the strong-armed talents of senior Evan Liddie as the Madison Academy senior signed an athletic-academic scholarship to play next season for the Falcons.

“I had several schools recruit me, but chose Montevallo where I plan on earning a degree in business,” said Liddie, 17. “As soon as I stepped on campus I felt like I was wanted and a part of a family. The coaches are amazing and I cannot wait to be a part of their program.”

The son of Jon and Amy Liddie began playing baseball in youth leagues at Phillips Park in Monrovia and also played basketball and football until his freshman year at Madison Academy. He chose to make the exclusive move to baseball where he has been awarded several team awards and was selected Perfect Game All-Tournament Team in 2017 and Baseball Silver Slugger Award in 2018.

“I stayed in park ball and fell in love with the sport,” added Liddie, who stands 5-foot-11 and weighs in at 170 pounds. “I’m not an overpowering hitter at the plate, but I get base hits and led the team in doubles helping move runners.”

Liddie batted .325 with 27 doubles, 11 triples and 25 RBIs a season ago for the Mustangs. His play in the field was outstanding converting on plays with a fielding percentage of 89-percent.

Liddie carries a 3.7 grade point average and has been a part of the President’s and Principal’s Lists and National Honor Society. He’s heavy into the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a member of the Spiritual Formation at the school, which are noted as Christian leaders within the school student body. He’s also a member of the Spanish and Chess Clubs.

While playing on a 12-under travel team in action near Nashville, Liddie once took batting practice from Mookie Betts, the current star of the 2018 World Series Champions Boston Red Sox and who led Major League Baseball in batting and slugging percentage. “I played with his nephew and Mookie threw batting practice to us.”

“Madison Academy has competitively challenged me to be better every day as M.A. has given me the opportunity to successfully reach my goals while teaching me how to keep God first,” said Liddie.
