Chip Lindsey Named Head Coach At Troy University

TROY, AL.- Chip Lindsey is on the move again.

Just over a month ago, Lindsey, a 1992 graduate of Bob Jones High, took the offensive coordinator job at Kansas being hired by new Kansas head coach Les Miles. Lindsey made the move to the Midwest after two seasons at Auburn in a similar position.

Now, the 44-year old has been named head coach of Troy University, which plays in the Sun Belt Conference. He inherits a program that has over the last three seasons won 31 games with three bowl victories and posted a school record three consecutive 10-win seasons. He replaced Neal Brown who became head coach at West Virginia.

“I’m a dreamer and I’ve always wanted to be head football coach here at Troy and I want to build on this championship culture,” said Lindsey during his introduction at the school. “We will play a fun and exciting brand of football. When players come to Troy their dreams become my dreams.”

Lindsey has over two decades of coaching experience, including three seasons as an assistant at Sparkman High. His first head coaching job came in 2005 at Colbert Heights High while his first college coaching job was at Troy in 2010 as quarterback coach. His work at Auburn (2017-2018) included one of the most electrifying offenses in the country while setting school records.

He said he will be heavily involved in running the Trojan offense and will call the plays and coordinate the offense with help.

Lindsey was a three-sport letterman at Bob Jones where he was coached by some of the school’s all-time greats such as Ricky Sizemore, Edd Carter, Guy Bowling and Robby Parker.

At Troy, Lindsey will have at least one player from Bob Jones to feel at home with as Demontrez Brown will be a sophomore wide receiver for the Trojans next season.

Lindsey and his wife, Cecily, have four children- Claire, twins Caroline and Cooper and Conner. His parents are Rick and Judy Lindsey.

Jeremy McClain, senior vice chancellor of athletics at Troy, said of Lindsey’s hiring, “We focused on finding someone who could take the ball and run with it. Someone who understood Troy and what our culture was about. With Chip, we found someone who blew us away and his most impressive quality is Chip as a person.”

Lindsey immediately hit the recruiting trail and having recruited the state as a member of the staff at Auburn will make his transition easy. Lindsey said his foundation of what type of player he is looking for are character, smart, disciplined and tough. He added, “My mantra when looking at a potential player is his energy level, attitude and most importantly his body language. I’m looking for players who are character smart-discipline tough.”
