Hazardous Waste Collection in Madison set for April 20

The City of Madison and the Solid Waste Disposal Authority (SWDA) are teaming up to provide a convenient drop station in Madison for hazardous waste.

Area residents are encouraged to bring household items that may be dangerous to the environment to the Discovery Middle School parking lot on Saturday, April 20 from 8 a.m. until noon. Acceptable hazardous waste includes paint, old TVs, computers, household cleaners and chemicals, as well as automotive products. These items are not picked up through Madison’s curbside service.

For a full list of passable items, visit www.swdahsv.org.

According to SWDA, the goal of the Household Hazardous Waste program is to reduce the toxicity of the community’s waste stream by removing as much of the household hazardous wastes as possible. “This reduces waste-handling related injuries and lessens the risks of injuries to fire and rescue personnel due to improper storage of hazardous waste in homes. Properly disposing of these items decreases air, ground and water pollution, as well as the contamination to local sewage treatment plants and storm drains.”
