State Decathlon And Heptathlon Championships

HOOVER- Multi-talented athletes from both James Clemens and Bob Jones High Schools had strong showings at the recent Alabama High School Athletic Association 2019 State Decathlon and Heptathlon Championships held in Hoover.

In the boy’s 56th annual decathlon, junior John Murray of Bob Jones finished third scoring 6,241 points while James Clemens senior Trevor Hunziker was eighth with 5,378 points. Athletes from Hewitt-Trussville finished first and second in the two-day event featuring 10 different athletic skills events. Stone Shelnutt was first with 6,481 points while teammate Caleb Long was runner-up scoring 6,305 points.

In the individual skills events, Hunziker won the discus with a throw of 143-feet, one inch. The Jet athlete finished second in the discus at the annual AHSAA State Track and Field Meet three weeks ago.

In the girl’s 47th annual heptathlon championship, Kelsey White of Baker High was the title winner with 4,357 points. James Clemens had two athletes finish among the top 10 participants as sophomore Cadence Huntsinger was fourth scoring 3,849 points and Audriana Blakely, a junior, finished eighth with 3,606 points.

On an individual event basis, Huntsinger won the long jump with a leap of 17-02.75.

Both Huntsinger and Blakely are members of the Lady Jets track team, which recently won the Class 7A State Championships at the AHSAA State Track and Field Meet.
