Madison man killed in wreck with train

DECATUR – A Madison man was killed Saturday when the car he was driving was hit by a train near Decatur.

Arthur D. Lapietra, 61, of Madison died at about 7:50 a.m. when the 2007 Saab he was driving was struck by a train at the railroad crossing on Laughmiller Road, about one mile north of Decatur.

“When the train struck the vehicle it actually took the vehicle into two pieces, pushing the passenger compartment of the vehicle approximately 297 feet down the tracks,” Cpl. Joel Baker, with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said.
