Watts leaves Sparkman to become new assistant principal, AD at James Clemens

Other key hires for MCS also announced

MADISON – Madison City Schools made some new hires on key positions as they get ready for the 2019-2020 school year.

Jason Watts was picked to replace Rocky Smith as the assistant principal and athletic director at James Clemens High School.

Smith recently left the position open last month after accepting an offer to become the next principal at Hartselle Junior High School.

Watts had been the assistant principal and athletic director at Sparkman High School for four years. He began his teaching career 19 years ago in Homewood City Schools where he also coached football, wrestling, track & field, and baseball.

The Madison school board also hired Sharon Nichole Phillips as the new administrator for the Madison City PreK Center. She replaces Angie Bush, who recently moved to Texas.

Phillips has been with the school system for a while. She was the Elementary Instruction Specialist for MCS, and previously served as the assistant principal at Heritage Elementary.

Shanaya Thompson was also hired. She will serve as a counselor to split between Columbia Elementary and Heritage Elementary. She was an elementary counselor in Ringgold, Ga. and also for an international school in Singapore.
