Jets Zoom Into Kudzu Invitational Cross Country Meet

BREMEN, ALA.- The James Clemens cross country team picked up trophies for its performances at the Kudzu Hills Invitational held in Bremen, Ala. The Jets won the Girls 2.1-Mile Division while picking up runner-up trophies in Boys 2.1-Mile, Boys 4-7A and Girls 4-7A Divisions.

Senior Kristin Day won her second event of the 2019 season with a time of 19-minutes, 48.70-seconds in the 5K course. She was followed by two additional Lady Jets among the top 10. Junior Emmy Mattingly was seventh with a time of 21:29.16 and Sydney Freeman, sophomore, was eighth at 21:41.14. Cullman was the team winner with 30 points while James Clemens was second with 49 in varsity.

In Boys 4-7A varsity, junior Matthew Hill was runner-up with a time of 16:48.93 and eighth grader Dylan Dryer was seventh at 17:39.43. The Jets scored 59 for second place while Cullman was tops in the division with 32.

In Boys 2.1-Mile, Junior High Division, James Clemens was second with 40 points and with Cullman division winners at 39. Individual results included three Jets among the top 10 led by Jayden Walton who was fourth at 17:44.49. Luke Alverson was sixth at 13:04.92 while Alex Butler was seventh at 13:05.15.

Claire Deaton of James Clemens was the winner in the Girls 2.1-Mile Junior High meet. Her winning time was 14:16.29. Third place was taken by Ashlyn Diehl with a time of 14:48.62 while Katie Gudgen was tenth at 16:00.74.

In girl’s varsity, there were 90 runners representing 12 schools. In boy’s varsity, 153 runners from 14 schools took to the Kudzu Hills course. In junior high events, 63 runners from five schools made up the  girl’s division while the boy’s featured eight schools and 87 participants.
