Driver leads police on wild chase through parts of Madison before crashing in Huntsville

MADISON – Two women gave police officers a wild chase involving a stolen vehicle through parts of Madison over the weekend.

Authorities say Madison and Huntsville police were notified Sunday morning that deputies with the Limestone County Sheriff’s Department were in pursuit of two women in a stolen white Chevy pickup truck at Highway 72 West and County Line Road.

Huntsville Police and Madison Police were alerted the truck was heading toward Zeirdt Road.

Authorities said Huntsville Police set up spike strips at Zeirdt Road and Shadow Cove Drive and Madison Police set up spikes along Zeirdt and Madison Boulevard. The truck hit the Huntsville Police spikes and some of tires started coming apart on Zeirdt Road.

The pursuit continued onto Madison Boulevard and the tires were coming off the pickup. Police said the driver continued driving on the rims of the car at a high rate of speed and refused to slow down or stop.

The chase went into Huntsville, eventually stopping at the intersection of Sparkman and Pulaski Pike after the suspect ran a red light and hit two vehicles.

Police said HEMSI and Huntsville Fire treated everyone at the scene and two individuals were taken to the hospital.

Huntsville Police arrested driving Lori Friend and took her passenger, Tiffany Robinson, into custody.

Friend was suspected of driving under the influence of methamphetamine, said police. She also had an outstanding warrant for Probation Revocation – Burglary Third-Degree.

Authorities said she also attempted to swerve and hit one of the officers during the pursuit while he was attempting to deploy the spike strips on Zierdt Road.

The investigation is ongoing.
