James Clemens and Bob Jones Qualify For Cross Country State Meet

MADISON- The 2019 Sectional Cross Country Meets were held at Palmer Park with 1-2-4-6-7 state classifications schools participating in attempts to qualify for the State Meet set for Nov. 9 in Moulton. The top four teams and top six individuals not on one of those qualifying teams advancing to the State Meet.

In Class 7A, James Clemens qualified both boys and girls squads as the girls finished runner-up while the boys were fourth. Bob Jones took second place in boys to also take their steps to the State Meet. The top 15 among the finishers were named to the All-Sectional Team.

In the 5K Boys Division, won by Huntsville High, those individual efforts among the top 20 included 5. James Garrison, 10, Bob Jones, 16-minutes, 19.74-seconds, 6. Jean Pierre LeRoux, 12, Bob Jones 16.19.77, 10. Omar Myers, 12, Sparkman, 16:30.43, 14. Matthew Hill, 11, James Clemens, 16:52.26, 17. Ryan Bender, 10, Bob Jones, 17:13.28, 18. Dylan Dryer, 8, James Clemens, 17:16.89.

Team results were 1. Huntsville 24, 2. Bob Jones 73, 4. James Clemens 99, Sparkman 138.

In the Girls Division, also won by Huntsville High, junior Hannah Thuss of Bob Jones finished runner-up with a time in the 5K race of 20:08.23. Other finishers included 6. Kristin Day, 12, James Clemens, 20:30.21, 7. Lauren White, 12, Sparkman, 20:42.28, 10. Samantha Menikheim, 8, Sparkman, 20:58.78, 12. Emmy Mattingly, 11, James Clemens, 21:07.14, 18. Sarah Shirley, 11, James Clemens, 21:30.63, 19. Sydney Freeman, 10, James Clemens, 21:34.79.

Team results included 1. Huntsville 39, 2. James Clemens 73, 5. Sparkman 122, 7. Bob Jones 180.

James Clemens qualified both squads for the State Meet for the second consecutive season while the Bob Jones boys team is advancing to the State Meet for the first time in five years.

The AHSAA State Meet will be held at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Moulton.
