Madison Chamber asking for letters thanking police, firefighters and first responders

MADISON – When you have an extra day in the year, what would be better than making it a very memorable one. That’s exactly what the folks at the Madison Chamber of Commerce are planning to do.

This is a leap year and the extra day this month, Feb. 29, has been dubbed “Leap of Kindness Day”.  To show their appreciation to the hard work and kindness shown by our local police, fire and first responders every day, the Chamber is asking people to send in letters thanking them for their service to the Madison community.

“I was so excited when I heard about Leap of Kindness Day,” said Chamber interim executive director Shannon Neblett. “This was a great way for the Chamber to help show our fire department, police department, and HEMSI men and women how much they mean to the community and to offer gratitude for their service each and every day,”

Neblett said the Chamber will need the letters submitted in time to deliver them on Feb. 28.

You can handwrite them and drop them off at the Chamber or email them to kindnessletter@madisonalchamber.com.

The Madison Chamber of Commerce office is located at 103 Spenryn Drive, Suite 100, near Sullivan Street.

Chamber Art Contest

The Madison Chamber is also accepting entries for the Chamber Art Contest. It is open to all Madison City Schools students.

“Two winners from each level (elementary, middle, and high school) will be chosen,” Neblett said. “This is a way for the Chamber to support the city schools and showcase some of the talent that we have in our city schools.”

Entries will be accepted at artcontest@madisonalchamber.com .  Winners will be announced the week of Feb. 24.

The winners’ work will hand in the Madison Chamber of Commerce office for one year and the honorable mention winners will hang in the Madison Public Library for a month.

Chamber Color Run

The Madison Chamber of Commerce will host the Chamber Color Run on Saturday March 21.

“This is a family fun event for our community,” Neblett said. “We will have a certified 5k and a 1 Mile Fun Run.  When runners cross the finish line, they will be covered in color.”

She also saod there will be food trucks and vendors on site.  “We anticipate that this will be a fantastic community event.” she added.
