88 fifth-graders exhibit mastery of science at Horizon’s annual fair
At Horizon Elementary School, 88 students entered the science fair. Sixteen students advanced to North Alabama Science and Engineering Fair at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. 88 fifth-graders exhibit mastery of science at Horizon’s annual fair

MADISON – Students explored the fields of botany, energy usage, clean water and many others at the annual Fifth-Grade Science Fair at Horizon Elementary School.

“Congratulations to our science teacher, Consuella Datcher, and all of the fifth-grade students,” Science Fair Coordinator and Gifted Specialist Beth Bero said.

Students who advanced to the regional fair are Kristin Adams, What Drink Stains Your Teeth the Most?; Coki Bennett, Plant Life; Sawyer Chance, Battery Life; Willa Colburn, Does Grey Water Affect Plants?; Caleb Cooke, How to Get the Most out of Your Theme Park; McKenna Coronel, Are You Leaving a Bigger Carbon Footprint by What You Eat?; Abigail Doyle, Pollution Effects on Plants; Misty Fields, Paper Airplanes; Shloka Gundapuneni, Balloon Powered Car; Cole Hardin, How Air Pressure Effects the Bounce of a Ball; Sophie Headrick, Structures for Stress; Matthew Kohan, Solar Power; Neil Mehta, Wilson’s Cloud Chamber: Visualizing Cosmic Rays and Subatomic Particles Around Us; Malcolm Phillips, Which Plastic is Harder?; Stacie Romero, Regrown or Micro?; and Lyla Zomkowski, Light Is Bright When Focused Right.

Other students who were recognized are Claire Zhang, first alternate, Measuring the Fraction of Oxygen in the Air Using Water-Candle Experiment; and Cal Hamilton, second alternate, Boy Oh Boy!

In addition, students who received “Art of Sustainability” commendation from Huntsville Botanical Garden are Sawyer Chance, Willa Colburn, McKenna Coronel, Abigail Doyle, Matthew Kokan, Malcolm Phillips, Stacie Romero, Anna Daniel, Jessie Elitzer, Riley Koehler, Ami Marks, Cameron Teague and Connor Trice.
