James Clemens Host Metro Cross Country Championships- Win One Division, Take Second In Three Divisions

MADISON- The James Clemens cross country program proudly hosted the annual Huntsville Metro Cross Country Championships at Palmer Park and while the squad was a perfect host, the squad also placed some outstanding performances in their home meet winning three runner-up team trophies and one title hardware for their outstanding skills on the course.

James Clemens took second place in both boys and girls varsity competition along with a similar second place position in the Jr. High Boys Division. The Jets also picked up a first place trophy in Jr. High Girls Division.

In the girls 2-mile junior high race, James Clemens posted a perfect 15 score placing their runners in each of the top five positions and an additional six runners among the All-Metro 15 runners. The perfect score was the third time in school history. The finished results included: 1. Ella Carter, 13:07.47; 2. Andie Howard, 13:48.50; 3. Catherine Rushton, 14:21.83; 4. Brittain Mattingly, 14:40.41; 5. Molly Herndon, 14:43.41; 8. Abigail Taylor, 15:06.63; 9. Brooke Bogardus, 15:13.80; 10. Sophie Plummer, 15:29.29; 11. Brook Apse, 15:29.65; 14. Susannah Sorensen, 16:04.03; 15. Kendall Lugos, 16:06.38.

Boys 2-mile junior high event, James Clemens scored 56 points for second place while Bob Jones was third (100). Individual results had three from James Clemens, and one each from Madison Academy and Bob Jones to make the All-Metro list of the top 15 runners. The final scores included 3. C.J. Weaver, Madison Academy, 11:27.07; 6. Cole Robinson, James Clemens, 11:57.16; 9. Jacob Velez, James Clemens, 12:20.12; 10. Nicholas Lozano, Bob Jones, 12:22.40; 15. Luke Alverson, James Clemens, 12:40.17.

In the varsity competition, which included a 5K distance, the girls finished with James Clemens scoring 50 for second and Bob Jones sixth with 185 points. Individually, James Clemens spotted four runners in the All-Metro top 15 positions and Sparkman with one spot. The final stats included 4. Kylie Gero, James Clemens, 20:16.69; 8. Emmy Mattingly, James Clemens, 21:00.45; 9. Samantha Menikheim, Sparkman, 21:08.83; 13. Claire Deaton, James Clemens, 21:24.06; 14. Sarah Vaughan, James Clemens, 21:31.28.

In boys, the Jets scored 66 points for second place, Bob Jones took third with 84 points and Madison Academy was seventh with 213 points. Individually, three Jets and two Patriots were among the All-Metro listing of top 15. Final tally had 6. James Garrison, Bob Jones, 16:20.15; 8. Isaul Rubio Montano, James Clemens, 16:49.56; 10. Ryan Bender, Bob Jones, 16:54.11; 11. Matthew Hill, James Clemens, 16:59.89; 15. Tyler Gohlich, James Clemens, 17:10.30.
