Madison Academy’s Seaton Plays in North-South All-Star Game

MOBILE- The North-South All-Star Classic was a tale of two halves. After a first half domination by the South with a 21-7 lead, the second half belonged to the North. In the end, a close game came down to the South holding the North on a game-leading two-point conversation try with 2:20 remaining to secure a 28-20 victory.  The South added an interception for touchdown in the final minute of play to put the game on ice.

The win was the second consecutive for the South in the 62nd renewal of the annual game, which was held at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the USA Campus in Mobile.

Madison Academy senior quarterback Avery Seaton was the lone local player to be chosen for the North roster and he saw limited action for the team that now trails the South in the overall series record of 32-27-2.

“It was an amazing experience as I had the chance to explore new offensive schemes and I bonded with some great players from across the state,” said Avery, who at 5-foot-11, 200-pounds, was 0-4 in passing with one rush for minus three yards.

The original game date this summer was cancelled due to pandemic restrictions, so the AHSAA decided to move the game to a December timeframe beginning this year.

Seaton, who helped lead the Mustangs to an undefeated regular season and was recently named Player of the Year in Class 4A Region 7, had over 3,100 yards total offense in the 2020 season. He had 35 touchdowns in nine games. Although he has had some contacts with college football teams, he verbally committed to UAH for a baseball scholarship over a year ago as he’s the top player on the Madison Academy baseball team. Seaton has now de-committed from UAH and will soon make a decision on where he’ll sign as three baseball teams have pushed heavily to get his talents.

“Jackson State, Alabama A&M and Southern University are among my final three schools in my selection,” added Avery. “As for the North-South All-Star Game, it was an experience I’ll never forget.”
