Reggie Ragland Signs With New York Giants

NEW YORK, N.Y.- Reggie Ragland is on the move again. The former Bob Jones All-State football player and University of Alabama All-American has signed a free agent contract with the New York Giants which will be the fourth team Ragland has played for in the National Football League since arriving into the pro ranks in 2016.

The 6-foot-2, 252-pound linebacker signed a one year contract with the Giants. The value of his signed deal was undisclosed.

After earning All-State honors three times at Bob Jones, Ragland signed with the Alabama Crimson Tide where he was named a unanimous All-American in 2015 along with the SEC Defensive Player of the Year Award and played on two national championship squads. He was selected in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills.

Upon arriving at pre-season training camp, Ragland suffered an ACL injury ending his rookie season before it started. Prior to the 2017 season he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs where he played in 58 regular season contests with 212 tackles and one interception. With the Chiefs, he played in six postseason games, including the victory over the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV.

Ragland will turn 28 in September and has many years in front of him in the NFL. He has come a long way since his birth in nearby Florence and his move to Huntsville where he was a three-sport athlete and was legendary as a middle school athlete for hitting 400-foot homeruns in baseball and slam dunking in basketball. Besides his star studded years in football at Bob Jones, he also helped the school’s basketball team win the 2010 Class 6A AHSAA state championship.

Ragland will now have to face the bigtime spotlight in the Big Apple and the efforts to make his new team a huge success like he has experienced wherever he has played.
