Mitch Daly- Freshman All-American

AUSTIN, TEXAS- The University of Texas athletics has always been among the deep roots of Mitch Daly. He was born just outside Austin, Texas, home of the Longhorns and fell in love with the university, thus not passing up the chance to play baseball for his beloved Longhorns.

Daly’s dedication to the team he dreamed of playing for was transformed into a stellar first year for the squad as he was named to the Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American team as a shortstop. He signed with Texas after passing on similar offers from both Duke and Clemson after four terrific seasons at Bob Jones High.

The Longhorns (47-15) were the No. 2 seed going into the NCAA College World Series after receiving a banner season from the 6-foot-1, 185-pound freshman. Heading into the College World Series, Daly batted .321 with 62 hits, 15 doubles, two homers and 31 RBIs. He was second on the team in hitting.

The son of Ed and Cathy Daly, the super freshman moved seven times growing up as his father is an officer in the U.S. Army. He has lived in two foreign countries and always geared his athletics to perfecting his baseball talents. Daly said in a previous interview, “My family supported me with their time and energy. They always made me a priority in their lives.”

Daly was a two-time All-State selection while playing for the Patriots at Bob Jones and was ranked the No. 1 shortstop in Alabama coming out of high school.
