One-Two Punch At Metro Cross Country Championships

MADISON- A one-two punch spotlighted the 2021 Huntsville-Madison County Metro Cross Country Championships as Huntsville High and James Clemens finished first and second respectively in each of the six divisions of the event held at Palmer Park in Madison.

In varsity boys, the Panthers posted 24 points to runner-up James Clemens which scored 58 points. Bob Jones tallied 174 points for seventh place. The host Jets were led by a sixth place overall run by Tyler Gohlich who marked a time of 16-minutes, 44-seconds. Additional participants who qualified as All Elite Metro Team by placing among the top 15 included those from James Clemens- 7. Dylan Dryer 16:56, 10. Cole Robinson 16:50, 15. John Luke Stovall 17:10.

In girls varsity, Huntsville was on top with 30 points, James Clemens was second with 73 while Bob Jones was seventh with 178 and Madison Academy at No. 8 208. Top James Clemens runner was Kayla Willett who completed the course in 20:23 and good for fourth place. Additional runners named All Elite Metro Team included those from James Clemens- 7. Ella Carter 20:56, 14. Emma Bothern 21:40.

JV Boys had Huntsville with just 15 points while James Clemens 48 and fifth place Bob Jones 131. Individually, James Clemens had five runners make the All-Metro Team- 6. Zachary Hinkleman 18:41, 10. Johnathan Ballard 19:11, 11. Will Davidson 19:48, 13. Noah Eelman, 14. David Sanchez 19:59.

In girls JV, Lady Panthers won with 20 points followed by James Clemens with 43 and third place Bob Jones with 60. Individual performances include the works to make All-Metro- 4. Kayley Gilman 23:42, 5. Andie Howard 23:59, 9. Kaitlyn Hockey 24:40, 12. Brooke Bogardus 25:00, 14. Brittain Mattingly 25:12 all from James Clemens. The Lady Patriots were led by 7. Kricket Johnston 24:36, 10. MacKenzie Edwards 24:45, 11. Jackie Sullivan 24:58.

The Jr. High boys division was also led by Huntsville with 27 points and James Clemens in second 59. James Clemens did extremely well in the junior high divisions as Luke Alverson was the overall winner with a new Metro record time of 10:20. He won by 28 seconds over the runner-up. Additional All-Metro runners included from James Clemens- 5. Andrew Gohlich 11:57.

In girls Jr. High, the Jets trailed the Panthers 34-50 while Bob Jones was third 71. Kylie Gero of James Clemens finished with a new Metro record time of 12:32. She took top honors by almost two minutes over the runner-up. Additional All-Metro performances from James Clemens included 3. Clair Colo 14:33 and 12. Kendall Lugos 15:52. For Bob Jones, sixth was Rachel Pennell 15:27 and No. 10 Ilene Pour-Biazar 15:38.
