Sheila Banister announces state representative bid

MADISON – Sheila Banister announced her candidacy for the 4th District of the Alabama House of Representatives this week. She has recently served as the president of the Republican Women of Madison organization, and has been a former consultant for businesses and government entities.

In a press release issued Friday, Banister’s campaign said her platform will focus on key issues such as education reform, prison reform, supporting small businesses, protecting constitutional rights and freedom from government overreach. She will also support legislation that offers strong infrastructure solutions, price transparency in health care and further protection for our first responders.

“Sheila will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role of representative. Her commonsense leadership approach is what we need in Montgomery,” said Limestone County Commissioner Danny Barksdale.

Banister is an active volunteer at her church and daughter’s school, and has donated her time to organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Junior Achievement USA, United Way, and Girl Scouts of America. She is also the co-founder, executive director and board member for Singular Humanitarian, an organization that provides development assistance in areas of infrastructure, professional development, education and health care across the globe.

“As a mother, wife, businesswoman and American, I am very concerned about our future and the direction we are headed. We need more than just a representative who drives to Montgomery and casts a casual vote. We need leaders in Montgomery who are willing to roll up their sleeves and find commonsense solutions to our problems. We need leaders who are not afraid to stand up for American values and say no to cancel culture, no to censorship and no to big government overreach of any kind. I am that type of leader and would find it a privilege and solemn responsibility to serve the people of the 4th District,” Banister said.
