Chip Lindsey Has New Job- Bob Jones Grad Reunites With Gus Malzahn At UCF

TAMPA, FLA.- Chip Lindsey has a new job. The former Bob Jones graduate of 1992 has been hired as offensive coordinator at the University of Central Florida (UCF) teaming up with head coach Gus Malzahn. The two worked together for three years at Auburn where Malzahn was head coach and Lindsey was offensive coordinator.

“We’re thrilled to have Chip part of our UCF family,” said Malzahn upon the release of the news of his latest hire. “He was with me in 2013 when we went to the national championship game and again in 2017 when we won the SEC West. He’s a great quarterback developer and he’ll be a great addition to our staff.”

Unknown to most due to Florida Atlantic never officially announced Lindsey was hired, but he was set two weeks ago to be offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with the Owls. Malzahn reached out to Lindsey after UCF’s 29-17 victory over Florida in the Gasparilla Bowl and completing the season at 9-4. Coach G.J. Kinne left UCF for a new job, thus opening the position Lindsey was hired for.

Lindsey was recently fired as head coach of Troy where he was 15-19 over three seasons.

“I’m extremely excited to come to UCF after watching that program from afar,” said Lindsey. “I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to reconnect with Coach Malzahn and work with him again.”

In high school, Lindsey lettered in four sports and played one year at UNA before he dropped out of football and transferred to Alabama where he earned his college degree. He once told the Madison Record he had come a long way since his first collegiate coaching job as quarterbacks coach at Troy.

Lindsey remains in contact with many of those he grew up around in Madison and said he fondly remembers his years in the community and still calls Madison “a special place.”

Lindsey is 47-years old and said of his hire by Malzahn, “He changed the way college football is played with the things he has done. I’m looking forward to building on UCF’s big bowl win.”
