AYSO United commends Butler for donation to Palmer Park

MADISON – One Madison-based soccer club can reach its vision for the future more easily because of a local legislator’s benevolence.

State Sen. Tom Butler has donated $13,852 for improvements to Field 6 at Palmer Park. American Youth Soccer Organization or AYSO United, the official club program of American Youth Soccer Organization, appreciates the park’s development, according to Joe Mullins, ID64 Director – East with AYSO United.

“The club sends massive thanks to Senator Tom Butler for his generous contribution to the restoration of Madison City Park’s Palmer 6,” Mullins said. “We also say, ‘Thank you,’ to Connie Spears, Madison Councilwoman for District 2, for accepting the donation on our behalf.”

Club Director Michael Winstone attended Butler’s presentation ceremony, along with and Paul Bright, AYSO United National Technical Director, who traveled from California for the occasion.

“Our intent for the donation is to continue our relationship with Madison City Parks and Recreation Department and to further the growth and development for our city members in Madison,” Mullins said.

“Our club has nearly 300 players with 82 percent of them Madison City residents,” Mullins said. He takes pride for club players that account for approximately one-half of all boys’ and girls’ rosters at Bob Jones and James Clemens high schools and Discover and Liberty middle schools.

“Palmer Park is our home and Palmer 6 is our primary game field. With its restoration, we are able to support our players’ growth and development in a safe and professional environment,” Mullins said.

AYSO United Alabama is in the City of Madison and boasts a tremendous coaching staff, Mullins said. “Our U.S. Soccer Licensed coaching staff is dedicated to providing a player-centered environment, which is perfect for players to develop both their tactical and technical skills while enjoying AYSO’s benefits.”

The club has produced players at the Olympic Development Program or ODP level. The club competes in Alabama State League, along with participating in state and regional tournaments.

AYSO United locations operate in 12 states and participate in both USYS and U.S. club leagues. “AYSO United is the fastest growing club program in the country with over 6,000 AYSO registered players,” Mullins said.

“Our teams compete at the highest level. Each AYSO United location operates under the support and guidance of the AYSO United National support team, ensuring that American Youth Soccer Organization is recognized for its excellence,” Mullins said.
