REMINDER: ‘Star-Spangled Celebration’ features cornhole, pickleball contests

MADISON – “The City of Madison Star-Spangled Celebration” has become popular with residents for a fun-filled day on the Fourth of July. Two contests add to the fun.

Madison Parks and Recreation Department is coordinating “Battle of the Paddle Pickleball Tournament” and “Liberty Toss Cornhole Tournament.”

The fourth annual Cornhole Tournament will be played as a double-elimination contest. The event on July 2 will be held at Dublin Park with a team meeting at 1:45 p.m., followed by the start of games at 2 p.m.

Teams must consist of two players. Registration fee is $25 per team and includes a shirt for each player. Winners in first, second and third place will receive prizes. Online registration will close when 20 teams have registered.

Players must be at least 10 years old.

Registration for the cornhole tournament will be open through June 30. To register, visit www.madisonal.gov, and click “Departments” and “Special Events.” In the cornhole section, click “Liberty Toss Team Registration Instructions” and follow the steps. The cornhole code is LibertyToss-2022.

The other contest at the 2022 Star-Spangled Celebration is the “Battle of the Paddle Pickleball Tournament.” Organizers believe that a pickleball tournament on the Fourth of July weekend will be an excellent way to celebrate the birth of our nation.

Pickleball partners in two-member teams can sign up for the inaugural Battle of the Paddle Pickleball Tournament on July 2 on Dublin Park’s outdoor pickleball courts. Fee for the doubles-only tournament is $30 per team and includes a shirt for each player.

The pickleball tournament will consist of three round-robin games, followed by a single elimination tournament. Prizes will go to teams in first, second and third place. Players must be at least 18 years old and bring their own paddles.

Registration will be open to June 30 and will end with 16 teams. To register, visit www.madisonal.gov, and click “Departments” and “Special Events.” In the pickleball section, click and complete “Battle of the Paddle Team Registration Instructions.” The pickleball code is BattleofthePaddle-2022.
