Kids to Love prepares to go “Over the Edge” for children in foster care

MADISON – The Kids to Love Foundation is getting ready to send supporters Over the Edge of downtown Huntsville’s tallest building Sept. 15-16 in downtown Huntsville.

Kids to Love will take over the Regions Center downtown and send participants Over the Edge in a one-of-a-kind rappelling event. This is the sixth year for Over the Edge, which is presented by Twickenham Advisors and hosted by Colliers.

Edgers pledge to raise money for Kids to Love to get the opportunity to rappel 160 feet from the top of the Regions Center to the Landing Zone below.

“Over the Edge is our most unique fundraiser each year, because it allows people in our community to challenge themselves while benefiting a good cause,” said Kids to Love Founder and CEO Lee Marshall. “We have 150 Edgers ready to take a trip over the edge of the Regions Center, and we want the street below full of people cheering them on!”

Among this year’s VIP Edgers rappelling on Friday night from 4-6 p.m. are WZYP-FM’s Mojo, Madison Mayor Paul Finley, Madison County Commission Chairman Mac McCutcheon, WAAY 31 anchor Demetria Green and WAAY 31 meteorologist Grace Anello. The public is invited to come out to watch rappelers go down 11 stories of the Regions Center and take part in the festivities at the street party at the corner of Clinton Avenue and Church Street.

On Saturday, Edgers will make their descent down the building to the street from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The public is invited to come watch Edgers, see the costumes some Edgers wear on their trip down the building, and take part in the Street Party. Fast Frankie’s Wicked Eats will be there Saturday, and Baskin-Robbins ice cream will be there both days. The Street Party is sponsored by Maximum Technology and Regions Bank.

Rocket City Mom will have a Kid Zone from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday which will feature fun activities and a princess meet-up featuring Belle, Tiana and Elsa. And KTECH, Kids to Love’s workforce training program will have a Virtual Reality Tent set up for attendees to get their own rappelling experience in a virtual world! There will be a live DJ both days.

Sponsors for this year’s ropes are MTA, Huntsville International Airport, and Jack’s. The Landing Zone is sponsored by SportsMED, the Tennessee Valley Authority and AMIIC. Mix 96.9 is the media sponsor for the event.

Money raised from Over the Edge supports Kids to Love’s wide range of programs that support children in foster care, providing them with everything from school supplies to scholarships to clothing and toys for Christmas.

In addition to supporting foster children and their families, Kids to Love is also a licensed Child Placing Agency in the state of Alabama and provides private adoption services. Kids to Love also operates Davidson Farms, a home for girls, and the Whitaker Cottage Community, a place for young women who age out of foster care to live while beginning a career or continuing their education.
