Wendy Pharo now leads as Principal at Madison Elementary

MADISON – Wendy Pharo, a well-known personality in Madison City Schools, is now working as Principal of Madison Elementary School.

“It’s my honor to serve as the principal of this dynamic school community. With over 15 years of experience in education, I am deeply committed to fostering an environment where every student can thrive academically, socially and emotionally,” Pharo said. “I have had the privilege of working at Heritage Elementary, Horizon Elementary and Central Office,” Pharo said. “My mom was a teacher, and I grew up going to school with her in the summer and after school.”

“Teaching is all I’ve ever wanted to do. I believe in working hard, having fun and giving our students opportunities to shine,” she said.

Since 2021, Pharo has worked as Assistant Principal at Horizon Elementary School after serving for 2.5 years as MCS Elementary Instruction Specialist. Previously, she worked at Heritage Elementary School for nine years — five years as a second-grade teacher and four as a reading specialist.

“My journey in education began as a second-grade teacher, where I discovered my passion for creating engaging and supportive learning experiences,” Pharo said. “Over the years, I have had the privilege of working in various roles within education — from classroom teachers, Reading Coach, Instructional Specialist and Assistant Principal to my current role as Principal.”

“At Madison Elementary, we promote a culture of excellence, innovation and inclusivity. I believe that every child has unique strengths and potential, and it is our goal to give all students an opportunity to shine,” Pharo said.

Pharo earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education at Auburn University and a master’s degree in instructional leadership from the University of West Alabama.

“I’m married to my husband Joey, and I have two sons, Andrew and Alex, who are Madison City Schools graduates. I am incredibly proud of both of them,” she said. (Facebook/ Madison Elementary School in Alabama)

Her pastimes are reading, cooking, traveling and ‘hanging out’ with her family and friends. “It’s hard for me to pick a favorite book, but some are ‘Charlotte’s Web,’ ‘The Junkyard Wonders’ and the Harry Potter series,” Pharo said.

“I look forward to working with teachers, staff, students and families at Madison Elementary,” she said.

Pharo fills the vacancy of Jamie Golliver, who accepted the position of MCS Coordinator of Security & Emergency Management. Tammy Brunton has replaced Pharo as Assistant Principal at Horizon.
