Madison City Schools increased police presence today in response to “unsubstantiated” threats

The following is a statement from Madison City Schools Superintendent Dr. Ed Nichols concerning recent school threats:

Dear MCS Family,

Madison City Schools officials in collaboration with the Madison Police Department have looked into threats against our schools that have been circulating over the past several hours. While none of these threats are substantiated, we proactively have increased police presence across our school district.  None of our district schools have been put into lockdown today, nor are in lockdown currently.

Madison Police confirmed that the threats against our schools that have been circulating originated with, and were initially sent, by students in districts outside of Madison City Schools.

We will continue to work alongside the MPD to monitor, investigate, and respond to all concerns and issues. The safety of all of our students, staff, and teachers and the security of all of our schools and campuses are top priorities. We will continue to follow our safety plans and procedures that are in place to help safeguard against any and all threats.

Dr. Ed Nichols,

Superintendent
