Latter-day Saints prepare for new Stake Center in Madison

MADISON – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will break ground on a new meetinghouse that will serve more than 3,500 of its members who reside in Madison and nearby communities.

To celebrate the milestone, local Latter-day Saints are preparing a groundbreaking ceremony on Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. at 28354 Powell Road in Madison.

Alabama is home to approximately 40,540 Latter-day Saints in the 17.2-million member Church, who attend one of 75 congregations throughout the state. This new meetinghouse will serve as the Madison Alabama Stake Center.

In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a stake is an administrative unit that comprises multiple congregations, known as wards and branches, within a specific geographic area. Similar to a diocese, a stake provides organization, support and leadership for members and offers resources to strengthen individuals and families in their faith.

After the groundbreaking ceremony, guests can enjoy light refreshments.
