UAH men’s Track & Field claims program’s first GSC indoor championship, women place second

BIRMINGHAM – The UAH men’s track & field team captured the program’s first-ever Gulf South Conference Indoor Championship on Friday at the Birmingham Cross-Plex while the Chargers women’s team earned second overall.

Malik Turner earned the Most Outstanding Field Performer Award and Most Outstanding Overall Performer Award for his first place finish in the high jump and second-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump.

Overall, UAH garnered a combined total of 15 All-GSC performances on the men’s side and eight from the women’s competition. The Charger men featured 10 First Team All-GSC honors, while the UAH women’s squad recorded four First Team All-GSC performances.

The UAH men’s First Team All-GSC performances included Wes Egalite (60m hurdles), Chris Thomas (200m), Wes Ellison (800m), Malik Turner (high jump), Sam Wilhelm (3000m), and Julius Williams (triple jump) in addition to the Chargers distance medley relay team of Eon Morris, Connor Patterson, Adam Taylor and Wilhelm.

The Blue & White’s Second Team All-GSC performers included Jaiden Young (400m), Noah George (5000m), Malik Turner (long jump, triple jump) and Adolfo Mireles (heptathlon).

On the women’s side, the Chargers boasted First Team All-GSC honors by Jordyn Dortch (60m, 200m), Jadlyn Debardlabon (long jump), Kyla Rohlin (triple jump), and the 4x400m relay team of Summer Sutherlin, Aniya Johnson, Grace Hampel, and Dortch.

UAH also benefited from Second Team All-GSC performances from Ivy Teachey (60m hurdles), Aniya Johnson (400m), Grace Hampel (800m), and Raegan Miller (pole vault).

The Chargers look ahead to their final tune-up of the 2025 indoor season on March 2 at the Boston University Last Chance Invitational, ahead of the 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana, from March 13-15.
