James Clemens HOSA rakes in awards at state conference

MADISON – Students in the HOSA Chapter at James Clemens High School amassed a collection of awards at the HOSA State Leadership Conference on Feb. 27-28 in Montgomery.

Healthcare professionals from across the state judged the students’ work. Students who placed in the top three in the state were invited to compete at the International Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tenn. on June 18-21.

Ashley H. Steinert is co-adviser of James Clemens HOSA. A health science teacher at James Clemens, Ashley Steinert also is co-advisor of National Technical Honor Society and a Registered Nurse.

“In total, our James Clemens HOSA Team had 30 total students in the Top Six (for their categories), bringing home nine Gold Medals, four Silver Medals, five Bronze Medals and 12 in the Top Six!” Steinert said. “These students dedicate so much of their own time in excelling in these competitive events.”

“I congratulate our outstanding HOSA future health professionals with their impressive results within their respective competitive events,” Steinert said about the students’ in place-winning kudos:

• Epidemiology – Senior Renee Drayton, first place; freshman Harstha Chander, second place; junior Giselle Chang, third place; and sophomore Amaan Musani, Top Six.

• Human Growth and Development – Senior Sahishnu Saha, first; senior Rosa Levan, third; and junior Prekshya Basnet, Top Six.

• Medical Law and Ethics – Senior Ria Baddam, Top Six.

• Medical Terminology – Senior Manasa Vadapalli, first; and sophomore Saqib Baig, second.

• Pathophysiology – Freshman Heidi Leonard, third.

• World Health and Disparities – Senior Stella Whitt and sophomore Sydney Webb, Top Six.

• Creative Problem Solving — Senior Ana Lara Lemus, first. Top Six includes juniors Sahithi Mynampally, Claire Jeong and Disha Patel and sophomores Nhi Tran, Nyima Kassama and Sophie Ni.

• Forensic Science – Juniors Taby Hartland and Kinsley Hardy, Top Six.

Emergency Medical Technician or EMT — Senior Oviya Gowder and freshman Laya Gowder, first.

• Physical Therapy Senior Jayda Yamaguchi, second.

• Clinical Laboratory Science — Sophomores Alia Hachem and Shreya Singh, Top Six.

• Family Medicine Physician – Freshman Hadlie Darke-Schreiber, Top Six.

• Dental Science — Sophomore Jace Yamaguchi, third.

• Veterinary Science – Junior Chloe Wells, second; and sophomore Nikki Katragadda, third.

“We are so proud of these students’ achievements, and, most importantly, how they represent our school and district!” Steinert said. “James Clemens HOSA is the place to be.”
