CAUTION: ALDOT repairing bridge and ramp damaged by steel coil at I-65, I-565 interchange
ALDOT crews are making safe a bridge and exit ramp damaged by a steel coil that fell from a truck this afternoon at the I-65 and I-565 interchange.
The approach, deck and rail of the flyover bridge from I-565 westbound to I-65 southbound were damaged in several places.
ALDOT crews patched lightly-damaged areas but will cover two more heavily-damaged areas along the shoulder with metal plates.
Crews will reopen the outside travel lane of the ramp and bridge once temporary repairs are completed and the roadway is clear. Please expect delays on I-565 westbound.
Starting at 9 a.m. tomorrow, July 23, crews will temporarily close the outside travel lane for asphalt repair.
ALDOT will plan a permanent repair for both the bridge deck and rail to be performed later. The outside shoulder, will remain closed until further notice to keep traffic away from the damaged guardrail and plated areas of the bridge deck.
