Bob Jones’ Romeo Washington to play in Blue-Grey All-American Bowl

MADISON – “I feel like some of my hopes and dreams are being fulfilled,” said Romeo Washington, after the Bob Jones defensive player was notified he had been selected for the 2025 Blue-Grey All-American Bowl. “Everything I prayed about and all of my hard work I have been putting in is finally paying off.”

The 6-foot, 210-pound linebacker/defensive back is gearing up for the 2025 season for the Class 7A Patriots with the season kicking off next week on the road against the Class 6A Cullman Bearcats and he feels this season’s team has something to prove.

“We plan on winning the region and get past the first round of the playoffs,” said Washington of the Patriots who were 6-5 overall and fell to Auburn in round one of the post-season action. “The intensity and discipline are better this year and we plan on letting our game efforts talk for us. We’re not big, but we have the best pieces to make a championship team. We’ve made a promise to prove we’re the best.”

Washington, whose father, Robert, is a volunteer coach for Bob Jones, posted one of the highest totals of tackles in the entire state with 110 overall including 67 solo and eight for a loss. He is a threeyear starter who played much of his sophomore season with a severe ankle injury and as a junior in 2024 broke his finger versus Austin and played the last five games of the season with that injury that was heavily wrapped. Despite all of his misfortunes, Washington is being heavily recruited by numerous colleges including Arkansas State, North Alabama, UT-Martin, Troy, Jacksonville State and San Jose State. As he heads into the upcoming season he is undecided on his choice of a school for his collegiate play and education.

He’s known as being very aggressive, great tackler and having great vision on the field able see his surroundings in a quick glimpse. He’s confident of his athletic talents as he added, “I’m quick, swift on my feet. I know I’m not the biggest on the field, but I hit harder than others who are much bigger. Plus, I have the speed and play the safety position when called upon. I truly feel I’m smart defensively.”

The Blue-Grey All-American Bowl will be played on Dec. 8 with kickoff set for noon central time in Orlando, Fla. at Camping World Stadium, the home of the NFL Pro Bowl. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

For Washington, the senior will have little time to prep for the game of elite players. “My plan is after our team season is completed I will work out and make my body in top condition and I will be ready,” added Washington.

“I was very surprised about being selected as I feel I’m blessed and lucky to be chosen,” said Washington, one of six defensive starters returning for the Bob Jones 2025 campaign. “I wanted to be selected and when I found out I had been chosen, I broke down in tears in disbelief.”
