District 6 city council race to go to run off

The race to represent District 6 on the Madison City Council will now go to a run off after none of the three candidates received more than 50% of the vote.

The run off comes down to Scott Harbour and Erica White, who won 34% and 45% of the vote respectively, eliminating incumbent Karen Denzine who received 20% of the vote.

Harbour has previously served on the Madison City Zoning Board of adjustment, Hogan Family YMCA Board of Managers, and as a Madison Chamber of Commerce Ambassador. He is the owner and CEO of H&S Haircutters (SportClips) and Vice President of Finance at Chapman Sisson Architects. He is also a graduate of Bob Jones High School.

He ran on a platform that promised to prioritize “smart growth”, infrastructure, transparency, and small businesses.

“One of the things that I think is really important to a community is having a good mix of both big businesses, franchises and chains, but also small businesses where the business owners are really part of the fabric of the community,” said Harbour during the campaign.

Erica White has previously served as Court Appointed Juvenile Advocate, Direct Care Hospice Volunteer, and an Adult Education Tutor and is owner of Kean Landscaping Service and Rocket Sleeps.

White’s campaign emphasized roads, infrastructure, managing growth, and first responder support.

“My neighborhood is filled with both long-term residents who’ve raised several generations in the area, as well as newcomers who are just discovering how special Madison is,” said White during the campaign. “I want to work to preserve the greatness that has drawn so many people to this city. I want to support the inevitable growth in a thoughtful way.”

Voting for the run off will take place September 23.
