Patriots down Grissom; Jets run over Huntsville

Sparkman overcomes struggles to win over Albertville

MADISON – Class 7A football includes 32 teams in the Alabama High School Athletic Association, and after four weeks of the 2025 only four of that number remain unbeaten.

Count Bob Jones among those latter few as it continued to slice through its schedule Friday night at Madison City Stadium.

Quarterback Gakoby Gill threw five touchdown passes to lead a 42-0 win over Grissom. He totaled 28 yards on 15-of-25 accuracy and didn’t throw an interception as Bob Jones improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in 7A, Region 4.

Grissom fell to 1-2, 0-2. Gill wasn’t the only star: Jaden Rice rushed 10 times for 123 yards and a touchdown; , Rhys Dorsey had six receptions for 109 yards and two TDs; BJ Carter had just two catches for 93 yards, both TDds.

Bob Jones travels for another region game this week at Florence (1-3, 0-2). The two played a chippy, emotional game last year in Madison won in overtime by the Falcons, 26-23.

The Patriots, who have outscored opponents 174-38, are creeping up on the Alabama Sportswriter Association Top 10 rankings. Last week, Bob Jones was in the 12th spot behind Baker and No. 10 Opelika.

In Albertville, the Senators broke through with their first win of the season behind Braylon Lawson. He rushed 15 times for a career-high 196 yards with two touchdowns.

Quarterback Joshua Naylon scored on a 7-yard run and was 11-of-20 for 144 yards and three TDs for Sparkman (1-3, 1-1 Region 7), which hosts Huntsville this week.

Also for the Senators, Braylon Watson rushed 15 times for 196 yards and two TDs. Zayden Bodner had four receptions for 81 yards with two TDs, and J Coates caught a 26-yard TD pass.
