Madison City Schools overall rates 95 percent for Alabama State Report Card

MADISON – Once again, all the campuses in Madison City Schools earned superior ratings on the Alabama State Report Card.

For the report cards, Alabama State Department of Education compiles performance results from all public and private schools across the state. The report card includes public and charter schools. Factors involved with ratings are student achievement, growth, graduation rate, career readiness and student absenteeism.

As of 2015, states are required to process a ‘report card’ because of federal legislation, Every Student Succeeds Act or ESSA 2015. This law superseded No Child Left Behind requirements.

Overall, Madison City Schools surpassed surrounding and distant districts with an average score for all campuses of 95. The 2025 score advanced one point from 2024’s average.

Administrators at several schools commented on their faculty and students’ efforts:

• Columbia Elementary School, 98 – “Astro Parents and Community, we are thrilled to announce that Columbia Elementary Astros have earned an A+ rating with an impressive 98 on our State Report Card! • Discovery Middle School, 94 – “We earned a 94/A this year on the State Report Card! Thank you to all of the teachers, administration, staff, parents and students who worked hard to make this happen.” Principal Dr. Kate Wade

• Heritage Elementary School, 99 – “Our success is the result of everyone working together to create a positive learning environment where students can thrive. . . Let’s take a moment to celebrate this outstanding achievement. It’s a true reflection of our shared commitment to learning and growth,” Principal Georgina Nelson said.

• Horizon Elementary School, 98 – “We did it again, Horizon! Last year we earned a 97 percent on the State Report Card . . . and this year we climbed to 98 percent. We are beyond thrilled. Huge shoutout to our amazing faculty and staff who pour into our students every single day . . .” Principal Demetria Freeman • Journey Middle School, 93 – “Our overall score increased from 92 to 93 on the 2024-2025 State Report Card. • Madison Elementary School, 98 – “What’s that? Have you heard the buzz (of our Hornets)? Madison Elementary earned a 98/A on our State Report Card. We’re so incredibly proud of our students and teachers.” Principal Wendy Pharo

• Midtown Elementary School, 96 – “Dear Midtown Family, we’re thrilled to share some outstanding news. Our school has received a 96/A grade on the Alabama State Report Card, a testament to our high academic performance and remarkable growth . . . To our Wildcats, thank you for your perseverance . . . To our teachers, your passion and tireless efforts to inspire have made this success possible… ,” Principal Savannah Demeester said.

• Mill Creek Elementary School, 97 – “We could not be more proud to share that Mill Creek earned a 97 on our State Report Card! This score reflects academic achievement, academic growth and progress in English Language Proficiency for our ELs . . .,” Principal Nathan Wilson

• Rainbow Elementary School, 98 – “This incredible achievement reflects the hard work, dedication and commitment of our students, teachers, staff and families.
