Try an event at the library in Madison or Triana for a break from way-too-busy days

MADISON – During December, a visit to libraries in Madison and Triana for an entertaining event will give a break from the holidays’ demanding schedules.

Madison Public Library will present these activities:

• Toddler Tales with Puppet Pals – Dec. 11 from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Youngsters can enjoy an interactive storytime and puppet show on Thursdays. This storytime is perfect for children from infants to three-year-olds. Another show, Preschool Puppet Palooza, will follow at 10:30 a.m. and targets three- to fiveyear-olds. • The MAD Movie-A-Thon-O-Rama: “A Christmas Story Christmas” – Dec. 11, 6 to 7:45 p.m. This sequel to “The Christmas Story” was released in 2022. Following his father’s death, Ralphie Parker returns to his childhood home and the old gang. The nostalgic movie reflects on Christmas 1973 with many cast members from the original. Rated PG. Auditoriums open at 6 p.m.; the movie begins at 6:30 p.m. Food and drink are allowed. For more information, go to hmcpl.org.

• Huntsville Concert Band Holiday Concert – Dec. 14 from 3 to 4 p.m. Music Director Marsha Asquith will lead these talented instrumentalists in a concert of holiday classics. The band belongs to the Association of Concert Bands and celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2024. The group performs several free, annual concerts, including Huntsville’s Veterans Day and Memorial Day ceremonies, other community events and at senior residences.

Huntsville Concert Band shares the uplifting power of music by providing members with a safe environment for musical self-expression and giving audiences enriching experiences in music.

Triana Public Library will offer the following sessions to patrons:

• Family Art Tuesdays – Dec. 16 from 2 to 5 p.m. The entire family can join this casual art activity. Every week, the staff will set up an art activity with examples and supplies. Patrons can ‘pop call’ for water coloring, drawing with acrylic paint pens…even origami. The fun is suitable for all skill levels. Adults must accompany children younger than 10 years old.

On Dec. 16, Triana patrons can craft a Hanukkah gar- land, Mkeka Kwanzaa mat and Christmas ornaments. On Dec. 23, the focus will be Christmas crafts.

• Winter Art Show and Tree Lighting – Dec. 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. The library staff invites the public to come for the art and stay for the tree lighting. The staff is teaming up with Triana Friends of the Library to transform the library into an art gallery to recognize months of art created by all students who have attended art programs this semester. Guests will enjoy refreshments.

Then at 6 p.m., the Town of Triana will launch the holidays with a tree lighting behind the library.

• Winter Gnome – Adult Paint Night – Dec. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. This activity is for adults and mature teenagers. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m.; arrive promptly before 6 p.m. This class is intermediate level, so late arrivals may miss important steps.
