Library adds laser cutter with grant from Madison Visionary Partners
MADISON – A Community Impact Grant for $1,750 from Madison Visionary Partners or MVP has helped Madison Public Library in purchasing a laser cutter for its Madison Makerspace.
Cut-off for current applications was Jan. 9 for nonprofit organizations and other groups. MVP’s ‘mini-grant’ cycle intends to boost these groups that are working within the City of Madison, MVP Executive Director Christina Hearne said.
For a Community Impact Grant, an organization can request between $500 to $2,500. MVP may fund a grant for less than the requested amount. Organizations must be based in Madison County.
The Huntsville-Madison County Library Foundation is grateful for its long-lasting partnership with MVP. MVP’s support has added tremendous value to Madison Public Library over the years, helping to meet the needs of Madison residents and beyond, according to library staff.
Madison Public Library, along with all branches of Huntsville-Madison County Public Library, works to stay tech-forward and recognizes the importance of modern resources for learning and creativity. “Thanks to MVP, the Makerspace Studio at Madison Public Library was able to purchase a laser cutter and engraver, an exciting tool that can be used for a wide variety of projects,” library staff said.
This laser cutter can cut through strong materials, like wood, acrylic and certain plastics. The device can engrave detailed designs or text onto many surfaces.
“The possibilities of what can be created using the laser cutter are endless. Some popular projects include jewelry making, personalized gifts and home decor. Over the holiday season, many patrons created ornaments and other fun crafts,” Hearne said.
The laser cutter is a great resource for anyone who enjoys hands-on projects and skill building, as shown by these examples that patrons created at Madison Public Library: wall plaques, trivets, an emblem for Auburn University, a Pokemon character and accent pieces for home decor.
Madison’s library staff expressed gratitude to MVP for investing in programs and equipment that help Madison Public Library grow its services and create meaningful experiences for people of all ages and abilities. MVP’s support helps keep the library a vibrant hub for learning, innovation and connection within the community.

MVP will host an awards breakfast for Community Impact Loans on March 25 at 11:30 a.m. at the Jackson Center, 6001 Moquin Drive in Huntsville, to recognize recipients of the 2026 Community Impact Grants.
