Javen Bies-Dupree named to Capstone Men and Women at University of Alabama

MADISON – A collegian from Madison, Javen Bies-Dupree has been selected to serve with the 2026-2027 class of Capstone Men and Women, the official ambassador group for the University of Alabama.

Bies-Dupree is majoring in mechanical engineering.

Capstone Men and Women support various administrative personnel, including the President’s Office, Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the National Alumni Association for the university.

The Capstone group assists in giving tours each day to students who are interested in attending the University of Alabama. The tours also are available to parents and other campus guests to help them gain a better understanding of all aspects of the university.

Capstone Men and Women contribute 3,800plus tours each year and serve approximately 13,000 hours. In addition, this year marks the service group’s 50th anniversary.

Anyone interested in applying for next year’s class can visit the Capstone Men and Women website at cmw.ua.edu for more information. Each student who joins the group must pass a script test with a score of 90 percent or higher. This test consists of 950 fill-in-theblank questions.

Capstone Men and Women confirm that people on campus feel an extra measure of hospitality at the University of Alabama. This approach allows visitors to feel that they have experienced a truly exceptional place.

Group members extend a warm welcome for guests and support various university functions both on and off campus while communicating a better understanding of all aspects of campus life.

Founded originally in 1962 as the ‘Crimson Girls,’ the group admitted the first male members in 1976. Also at that time, the name changed to the ‘Crimson Girls and Capstone Men.’ Then in 1991, the organization adopted its current moniker as ‘Capstone Men and Women.’

Capstone Men and Women are celebrating 50 years of service in 2026. The legacy lives on and benefits the group – whether the student graduated in 2025 or 25 years ago.
