Borys, Eggart and Turner earn teacher and staff district awards

MADISON – Brittany Borys, Amy Eggart and Abby Turner have earned district awards with Madison City Schools.

Borys, Eggart and Turner received their awards, which includes $5,000, at the annual Institute Day on July 30 at the Von Braun Center. Approximately 1,500 employees gathered for a morning of inspiration, reflection, celebration and more.

These employees already had received “Teacher of the Year” and “Staff Member of the Year” awards earlier this year at the school level.

Accepting her award, Borys was grateful “to see my teammates jumping with excitement and my students surrounding me with cheers and hugs. It was a moment I’ll always remember.”

Borys started teaching third-graders in Washington Elementary School District in Arizona and a special education class in Paradise Valley Unified School District. In Alabama, Borys taught fourth-graders in Limestone County Schools for one year before joining MCS as a second-grade teacher. Currently, she teaches third-graders.

Her successes include assisting with launching Mill Creek’s Madison City Friends Club; serving on the district’s framework committee and as a Learning Lab teacher; leading professional development; and mentoring new and aspiring teachers. “Most importantly, I feel pride in the incredible relationships I’ve built with my students and their families over the years,” Borys said.

“I also feel a strong sense of accomplishment when my students recognize their potential, grow in confidence with new skills and develop a genuine excitement for learning while celebrating and embracing each other’s differences,” Borys said.

The District Secondary Teacher of the Year award went to Amy Eggart, a collaborative special education teacher at Liberty Middle School. Eggart said she was excited to return to work at Liberty.

Eggart has taught in five states and mentored children from all over the world. “I welcome the richness that learning from each other, both culturally and academically, brings to the educational experience,” she said.

Eggart also worked as Title One instructor and taught pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, gifted classes and middle school English.

The District Staff Member of the Year award went to School Nurse Abby Turner at Heritage Elementary School. Turner received the award by demonstrating exceptional dedication, commitment and contributions to her school community.

In her role as nurse, Turner consistently exceeds standard expectations. She shows initiative on projects and tasks and agrees to complete tasks outside of her job description.
