Madison Methodist to host third annual Veterans Dinner
MADISON – Madison Methodist Church will host its third annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m.
The free dinner evolved from the church’s outreach to veterans in the community. The positive response from previous events encouraged church members to do a little more, including providing a home-cooked meal.
“The response has been terrific. Attendance grows a little more each year. The first year we hoped for 50 people, and we nearly doubled that number,” coordinator Carol Moats said. “We want all our veterans to enjoy fellowship, good food, entertainment, and an interesting story. Our congregation gets as much out of the event as the veterans, and it gives us a chance to honor our veterans outside of the usual Veterans Day celebrations.”
This year’s speaker will be former WAAY anchor, Marie Waxel. As a representative of the new Huntsville U.S. Memorial Veterans Museum, she will present plans for the museum’s new building and programs.
“We know her enthusiasm for veterans and especially the Museum, and we look forward to hearing about the updates and changes coming,” Moats said. “We also want to see how we can help the museum grow.”
Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. with special music by The No Name String Band.
