Fees for access, rentals from Parks and Recreation Department increase

MADISON – Madison residents will notice that they’re paying a bit more for reserving a meeting room, joining a sports team or accessing a sports court with the increase in fees for activities with Madison Parks and Recreation Department.

Madison City Council approved the fee hike on Aug. 10. The new fees went into effect on Oct. 1. The last time that officials adjusted fees for facilities and programs was in 2020. Increases will apply to facility rentals, athletic fields and courts, memberships and recreation programs.

In summary, fees are increasing because of several factors:

• City of Madison residents will receive the best rate for facility rentals, memberships and programs. . . compared with individuals who don’t live in Madison. Madison residents support parks and facilities with their city taxes and will continue to receive the most favorable pricing under this new structure. Individuals may be requested to show proof of residency.

• Rising costs of supplies, materials and freight caused the need for adjusting fees.

• The revenue increase will allow the city to offer new and expanding classes and programs.

This adjustment allows Madison Parks and Recreation Department to keep pace with costs while continuing to provide high-quality recreation opportunities for the community.

The following examples are just a sample of new rates for residents and non-residents:

• Madison Community Center – Room B106 with 851 square feet and Room B105 with 829 square feet will increase to $50/ resident and $55/non-resident per hour. Renting both Rooms B105 and B106 for combined square footage of 1,680 will be $90/resident to $100/non-resident.

• Dublin Park – Renting one, two or three rooms will increase by $5 per hour. A party package for the indoor pool has increased from $150 to $165. A party package for the outdoor pool has increased from $225 to $250.

• Courts and gym – Pickleball court increases from $10 to $15 per hour. Dublin gym, full court, from $100 to $110 per hour.

• Athletic fields and special-use facilities – Soccer and baseball field without lights increase from $25 per hour to $30; with lights, increase from $35 to $40 per hour. Home Place Park and Sunshine Oaks Park’s rentals per day increase from $1,000 to $1,050.

• Memberships – For an individual, a six-month regular membership costs $110 for residents and $120 for non-residents.

• Recreation programs for youth – Youth basketball’s fee is $150 for residents and $175 for non-residents.
