Jets football streak ends, eyeball new beginning
HOOVER – James Clemens went to the Birmingham area looking to extend a winning streak and gain momentum heading into the Class 6A playoffs.
It didn’t happen, but the wind also didn’t collapse from the Jaguars sails.
Spain Park broke a seven- game winning streak with a 48-21 win in a regular- season finale Thursday, but James Clemens head coach Juan Johnson vowed that while his team might’ve bent, it didn’t break.
“We’ve just to reset,’’ Johnson said. “The playoffs are a totally different deal. Everybody goes in 0-0, looking to go 1-0 each week. You can’t carry a win over from the regular season or even a mindset in this five-week journey.”
The Jets (8-2) have a bye this week as Region 4 champions and will then play the first-round winner between Hewitt-Trussville and Gadsden City.
“I’ve spent the last couple of days over the weekend putting together two different game plans,” Johnson said. “We’ll spend (the next days) getting James Clemens prepared.’’
Spain Park (6-4) plays Buckhorn in the first round.
