Zoning ordinance to limit parking to streets only

By By Thomas Tingle
Record Managing Editor
An amendment to the city's current zoning law may stop motorists from parking their vehicles on unpaved areas in Madison.
If approved, the new law would limit driveways in residential zones to 30 feet wide and prohibit parking in the unpaved part of the front yard. The proposal would also establish a maximum number of parking spaces for large businesses and allow a business to substitute bicycle racks for up to five percent of the minimum number of parking spaces required.
The proposal will go before the City Council for its approval.
In action taken by the Madison Planning Commission, plans to subdivide 111.7 acres of property into three lots for the proposed Madison Business Park near Intergraph has been approved.
Intergraph will pay $172,000 to improve the streets leading into the park which will become city streets once those improvements have been made. Intergraph intends to develop the park with manufacturing businesses, office space and high tech companies.
