Local Valentine’s Day alternatives

Tired of dinner and movie? Try these alternatives for a fun and unique Valentine's Day.

Tired of dinner and a movie? Wanting to do something more unique and local this Valentine’s Day? Well, Madison County is offering a plethora of Valentine’s Day-inspired events to keep you and yours entertained.

Bitter Ball 2011

Dolce Enoteca at Bridge Street Town Centre invites you to attend Bitter Ball 2011 from Feb. 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
Enjoy a night of fun and dancing… who knows you may just find your Valentine’s Date that evening.

“Same Time, Next Year”

“Same Time, Next Year,” the Tony award winning play that ran on Broadway for four years is coming to the Merrimack Theatre Performing Arts Center. The play is about two people who fall in love and meet up yearly, despite their marriages and kids. The play is recommended for adult audiences. Tickets are $25. Show times are Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Feb.14 at 7:30 p.m. All tickets include an invitation to the reception, complementary wine, a flower and chocolates.

Phil Weaver Valentine Concert

On Feb. 12, Phil Weaver, the Flying Monkey’s classical guitarist will play a solo show for this year’s Flymo Valentine’s concert at the Flying Monkey Theatre at Lowe Mill in Huntsville. Admission is $7 and the concert starts at 8 p.m.

“An Evening to Remember”

Enjoy a photography package with photographer Lisa Weir and the ambiance of 16Main. Wine, chocolate and light hors d’oeuvres will be served in the gallery.

“It’s an opportunity for couples in the community to have something to do locally here in Madison,” Weir said. “It’s something romantic to do.”

The package includes a custom photography sitting with Weir, one digital CD of portraits and a chance to win an art class. Cost is $25 per couple. For reservations, call 16Main 256-325-0161.
