LADY PATRIOTS WIN STATE VOLLEYBALL TITLE!
BIRMINGHAM – Just when it looked like the high school volleyball family at Bob Jones was going to call for an exorcist at the court named after Bill Harris at the CrossPlex, something happened.
What happened was the Lady Patriots showed their mettle and avoided an epic collapse and defeated Thompson 3-2 in a no quarter asked, non given five-set match Wednesday to win the Class 6A state championship.
Bob Jones dominated play in taking a 2-0 lead, then seemed to shrink away from payday as the Lady Warriors came back to notch the match at 2-2 and created a dramatic third set.
It was Bob Jones’ first state title since 2013 and third overall in program history. The Lady Patriots previously lost in the semifinals for finals on the same floorboards in three of Jenny Jarrett’s five seasons.
