Special needs students receive tips for prom

Special needs students received prom etiquette tips in the Bob Jones Culinary Room, March 21.

Juniors and seniors in Bob Jones High School’s special needs class will all be prepared when it comes time for prom.

The class received a quick lesson on dancing to different styles of music, asking someone to dance, complimenting dates and properly going through the food line.

“It was a really nice way to be ready for the prom and to learn those skills,” said Charlene Sandford, special education teacher.

Sandford taught at Decatur High School for 16 years, where she did a similar exercise and she said it was great to bring it to Bob Jones.

Scott Dow, a senior in the class has attended prom all four years. He said the lesson was important for those attending prom for the first time.

“It’s important for people who haven’t been to prom so they can know the proper way to eat and dance,” Dow said.

The students will showcase what they learned at the Bob Jones prom, Saturday, March 26 at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.
