Madison County under flood warning

A flood warning is in effect for Madison County until 2 a.m. Tuesday morning.

A line of severe thunderstorms passed through the area, and more storms are expected within the next few hours.

As much as 2 inches of rain has fallen within the last three hours, and as much as 1 inch more is possible.

Runoff from this excessive rain is expected to cause flooding of creeks, streams and low-lying areas.

Motorists are advised not to drive vehicles into areas where water covers the roadway, as water depths may be too high to allow vehicles to pass.

There have also been multiple reports of downed trees, downed power lines and power outages.

This system has produced isolated tornadoes, hail and strong winds, including sustained winds stronger than 30 mph. Dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning is also prevalent in the storm.
