Festival to benefit homeless, rescued pets

A local arts organization is raising money for homeless and rescued pets in the area.

Art 4 Paws will take place Saturday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Village Green in historic downtown Madison.

The Madison Arts Council is hosting Art 4 Paws: Pet Adoption and Art Festival.

Art 4 Paws will take place Saturday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Village Green in historic downtown Madison. Festival organizers said a portion of all monies raised will go toward Madison area animal rescue groups and shelters.

“We realized that we all had a very sincere love of our pets and wanted to create an event that would combine animals with art,” said Beth Pierce, president of the Madison Arts Council.

Art 4 Paws is headed by Kristy Stewart. Other committee members include Michele Lee, Laura Pope, and Andy Stewart.

The festival will include adoptable animals from local rescue groups and shelters, vendors, photographers and painters. Vendors will have booths set up and will be selling various kinds of pet items including leashes, pet beds and treats. There will be a professional photographer on hand to take custom pictures of you and your pet. An artist will also commission hand-drawn pictures. Pet walkers, veterinarians and pet-oriented businesses will be in attendance.

“This is also a great way for us to get the community out and mingling with each other,” Pierce said.  “We encourage the community to come out and support this cause. Without community involvement, we will not be able to have what we hope will be the first of an annual event.”

Art 4 Paws is open and free to the public. The Village Green is located between Main Street and Front Street, in the vicinity of the gazebo.

The deadline for vendor applications is March 30. Cancellation deadline for a full refund is April 13. Booth space is free on a first-come basis to rescue organizations/animal shelters, and other non-profits. A $35.00 booth fee is required from commercial organizations.
