Purple Potty popping up around town

The fundraiser will kick off this Thursday at the home of Madison Mayor Paul Finley.

Don’t be surprised if you’re driving around your neighborhood and see a purple toilet in a neighbor’s yard.

The American Cancer Society is back this year with the Purple Potty Fundraiser benefiting Relay for Life.

The fundraiser works by placing a purple toilet in area yards. The homeowner then has to pay either $10 to have it removed, $20 to have it removed and sent to a friend’s house or $30 for “toilet insurance,” which means it cannot be put in your yard again.

“We also encourage businesses to participate,” said Beth Haynes, community representative for the ACS. “It could show up in front of a business or in someone’s parking spot. If the business allows, maybe in someone’s office or cubicle.”

Haynes said instead of the potty being passed around just in Madison, it will be sent all over the whole county.

The fundraiser will kick off this Thursday at the home of Madison Mayor Paul Finley.

“This is a wonderfully innovative fundraiser that Julie and I are thrilled to kick-off,” Finley said. “Relay for Life is a fantastic event supporting a great cause.”
